Congratulations to Colo Nesco U12 Soccer on winning the 2011 Spring Season Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer League Championship with a record of 7-0-1. The team competed against many larger school districts such as Dowling Catholic, Knoxville, Pleasant Hill (Southeast Polk), Soccer South (West Des Moines Valley), and Stuart (Nodaway Valley). Team Members include: Garret Tiarks, Parker Eley, Ashton Graddick. The Colo-NESCO youth wrestling club wrapped up their regular season tournament at South Tama on Saturday February 26th. There was lots of good wrestling, in the end Wayne Beard took 1st, Tanner Halverson took 1st with three pins, Ben Sarver took 2nd, Hunter Beard took 2nd, David Grimes took 2nd, Drew Robinson took 3rd, Kenny Cutler took 3rd, Sean Cutler took 4th, Cole Dualaney took 3rd, Garret Tiarks took 2nd and Garret Packer took 3rd. Way to go boys! The season is not completly over, there are a few boys that will be heading to Boone on March 12th to compete in AAU Disticts, those who place 3rd or higher will then head to Des Moines on March 26th for AAU State. The 6th grade boys ended their season with a 2nd place finish in the Colo Tourney on Saturday.
They lost in a thrilling overtime championship game which due to preset rules was a "sudden death" conclusion where the first to score won. Eldora/New Providence and CN had their chances, but unfortunately for the Royals 2 shots rimmed in and out and the E/NP team was able to get their 2nd shot to fall. The weekend was a great conclusion for a group of boys that has worked hard and competed all year and made great strides in playing as and becoming a team! Congratulations Boys!

Jake Perry took 1st, Drew Robinson took 1st, Ben Sarver took 1st, David Grimes took 2nd, Tanner Halverson took 2nd, Billy Gibbons took 3rd, Garret packer took 3rd, Wayne Beard took 3rd, Garret Tairks took 3rd, Dillon Coree took 4th, Jack Mc Kinney took 4th, Romello Vang took 4th and Hunter Beard took 4th. Also we were competing against seventeen other teams for a team trophy. Although we did not bring a trophy home ,we still did well. We were going up against teams like Ames, Ballard, Urbandale, Johnston, ect. Out of the seventeen teams Colo-Nesco came in 6th, not bad for a 1A school. Great job boys. Coach Rick

The 5th & 6th Grade Girls Basketball teams scrimmaged each other on December 30. It was a great game and the girls gave it their best. Even though we have some things to work on in practice, the girls were able to learn and experience a "real game" situation.

Thanks to the 6th Grade Girls Basketball team for your efforts and positive sportmanship. Thanks also to their coaches, Sue Vincent and Michelle Stalzer. Sue went above and beyond by serving as referee (and teacher).

The 2010 version of Colo Nesco Flag Football is well underway with some exciting action. Once again it's looking like the 9-11 year old Colo Nesco teams will finish the league in 1st and 2nd place as CN1 is undefeated and CN2's only loss is to CN1. Following are a couple pictures taken during one of the games. If any other parents have pictures they would like posted here, please contact Ken Tiarks and we will get them on the site.

Unfortunately they came up short in the game and finished in 2nd place but it is the highest finished ever for this group of players and they should be proud of the way they played all day.

Colts end season 3-1 with Victory over Vikings 21-7

The Colo Nesco Colts finished their season with a 3-1 record and in second place in the league with their only loss (by one point) coming to their classmates on the Colo Nesco Packers, who finished in first place. It was an impressive year for the Colo Nesco Flag Footballers as both teams dominated in league play and faced their toughest competition when playing each other. While most teams in the league tend to run 3 out of 4 downs the Colts were a pass oriented team who threw on almost every down, mixing in an occasional run to keep defenses honest. Comments from opposing coaches over the year were amazed that the Colo Nesco teams ran exclusively from a shotgun formation since they couldn't find any players that could snap in a shotgun formation. They also questioned if we practiced after school every night since we seemed so polished at route running and play execution. They were shocked to learn that we, like them, only practiced once a week. It is a true compliment to this groups of kids on how much pride they take in working to be good. They are also across the board a very good set of athletes who help the new players learn the system and lead by example so everyone is on the same page. They also have stuck with the program and most of the older kids have been playing together since 2nd or 3rd grade. It definitely shows on game nights. The Game: Vikings won toss and start with ball 1st - run stopped for no gain by Grant Tiarks, 2nd - bad snap, dead ball, 3rd - Screen pass is broken up by Tanner Clatt, incomplete, 4th - reverse is stopped for no gain by Garret Tiarks; Colts Ball: 1st - Kevin Hapes on run up middle for short gain of 2 yds. 2nd - reverse run by Garret Tiarks, spinning move at line of scrimmage avoids tackle and gains 5 yds. 3rd- Colts hurry back to line and run same formation and play but a good fake handoff by Tanner Clatt to Garret Tiarks sucked defense to Garret, Tanner squared his shoulders and found a wide open Grant Tiarks who had slipped behind the defense for a gain of 37 yds. getting stopped just short of the TD. 1st - Colts are sacked for a loss of 10 yds. 2nd - Under heavy pressure Tanner Clatt just gets pass off but falls incomplete. 3rd - Tanner Clatt scrambles to the left under heavy pressure again and finds Grant Tiarks flashing across the back of the end zone for a 12 yd. TD! Colts 7-0. Vikings Ball: 1st - Split backfield, backs crisscross and run into QB. Runner falls to ground, dead ball, 2nd - Pass is deflected and knocked to ground by numerous Colt defenders, 3rd - run to left gains 9yds before stop by Grant Tiarks, 4th - Zig-zagging run back and forth across the field through almost all the Colts defenders breaks free at midfield and outraces everyon for TD. Score 7-7. Colts Ball: 1st - Tanner Clatt passes to Grant Tiarks on deep post gains 23 yds, 1st down. 1st - Bad snap hits ground, dead ball, 2nd - Spencer Short on run to left gains 3 yds on nice cutback., 3rd - Tanner Clatt has ball just tipped away from a slidng Grant Tiarks for an incomplete pass, 4th - Tanner Clatt under heavy pressure just overthrows Garret Tiarks who had broke free behind the defense. Vikings Ball: 1st - Run is stopped immediately by Tyler Anthony on great speed rush. 2nd - Tyler Anthony with stop again for no gain, 3rd - reverse is stopped with nice back side containment from Austin Johannes for no gain. 4th - double reverse doesn't fool Garrett Packer who make stop for loss of 2 yds. Turnover on Downs. Colts Ball: 1st - Tanner Clatt with screen pass to Garret Tiarks gains 5 yds. 2nd - same formation but fake on screen then leach out by receiver, Tanner Clatt finds Garret Tiarks behind defender who bit on screen fake and runs down sideline , stepping out of bounds trying to avoid last defender for gain of 20 yds and 1st down. (Parents along sideline for both teams say he was a foot from going out, but oh well) 1st - Tanner Clatt finds Garret Tiarks again breaking away from defender for gain of 19 yds to 1 yard line. ( Grant Tiarks made a nice comeback block on a defender who was just getting ready to reach for Tanner's flag that allowed the throw to be made). 2nd - Evan Dodd following some nice blocking by the line, cut left off Spencer Short's seal off block of the nose guard and scored for 1 yd out for TD! Colts 14-7 Vikings Ball: 1st - Pass was well defended by Matthew Hill and ball fell incomplete. 2nd - Double reverse again fails to fool Garrett Packer as he stays well positioned and makes stop for no gain. 3rd - Grant Tiarks on speed rush stops play behind line of scrimmage for loss of 2 yds. 4th - Pass attempt to right side found Tyler Anthony dropping off line into coverage, where Tyler stepped in front of receiver on a great read and intercepted pass, Tyler then sprinted 15 yds weaving through defenders to paydirt for TD! Colts 21-7, Vikings Ball: 1st - Tyler Anthony follows up TD by sacking the QB for loss of 3 yds, clock expires, HALFTIME: COLTS 21 - VIKINGS 7 Colts Ball: 1st - Jacob Clatt with run to left gains 4 yds. 2nd - Grant Tiarks passes to Tanner Clatt on screen to left for 4 yds. 3rd - High Snap over QB's head almost caught by Jacob Clatt but falls to ground, dead ball 4th - Super high snap over everybody, turnover on downs. I also want to thank Dennis Clatt, whose defense bailed out my playcalling many times, he really had the kids playing a suffocating defense all year, and always seemed to have kids in the right position to make plays. Thank you also to all the parents for getting the kids to practices and games, your help is invaluable in making the season work. CN Packers Finish Season UNDEFEATED!! 4-0

The Colo Nesco Packers fininshed off an undefeated season with a 21-7 win over the Nevada Vikings. On a nasty night weather wise, with howling wind, biting cold, and light to moderate drizzle, the Packers continued their dominating ways by not allowing the Vikings any type of offensive rhythm and breaking free for a multitude of long runs. THE GAME: Packers started on defense and forced a 4 and out, Packers Ball: 1st - Hunter Beard gains 20yds. on run to right, but drive fizzles from there and Pack turns it over on downs, Vikings Ball: 4 and out, Packers Ball: 1st - Wayne Beard on a reverse sprints 45 yds. for a TD! Packers 7-0, Vikings Ball: 1st - Long Pass is intercepted by Brady Stoeffler and returned 27 yds. to paydirt for TD! Packers 14-0, Vikings Ball: 4 and out, Packers Ball: 1st - Wayne Beard runs for 20yds. 2nd - Brady Stoeffler runs for 30 yds. and TD! Packers 21-0. Vikings Ball: 4 and out, Packers Ball: 1st - Loss of 3 yds on run, 2nd - 15 yd gain, clock expires, Haltime: Packers 21, Vikings 0 Packers Ball: 1st - Mason Lytle gains 8 yds. on run, 2nd - Incomplete pass to Bryce Niemeyer who made a great effort to get to ball., Drive stalls turnover on downs. Vikings Ball: The Vikings finally mounted a drive and moved the ball to the 10 yd line but the Packers defense stiffened and held the Vikings there not allowing thm another inch. Turnover on downs, After a couple of 4 and outs, one by each team, it was the Packers Ball: On 2nd down Bryce Niemeyer gains 20 yds. on a run to the left, on 4th down Brady Stoeffler finds Parker Eley with a pass that is just 2 yds short of the 1st, Turnover on downs, Vikings then 4 and out, Packers 4 and out, Vikings score on last play of game TD. Score 21-7. Congratulations to the Colo Nesco Packer players to Coaches Joel Niemeyer and Marlin Beard who did a great job with this team. Thank you to all the parents who got the kids to the practices and the games and a special thank you to Amber Tiarks and Randy Stoeffler for keeping stats for the Packers so I was able to write the blog. Colts move to 2-1 with 28-7 win over the Chiefs

On what I would describe as a bitter, blustery night the CN Colts moved the record to 2 wins and 1 loss on the season in defeating the Nevada Chiefs. One look at the parents bundled up in the pictures in the post below will give you some idea of the conditions for the 4th week of the Flag Football season. Temperatures in the 40's along with a strong (30mph) wind and a constant light to moderate drizzle made for tough conditions to say the least. Even worse for the Colts is the fact their offensive coach, me, has a tendency to like the forward pass. Evidenced by the total of 3 running plays in the reportoire. Luckily Dennis Clatt, the defensive coach, has had the kids playing superb defense all year, thus taking a lot of pressure off my play calling. THE GAME: Colts lost toss but somehow go the wind behind them and the ball to start the game. 1st - wet ball hits ground on snap, 2nd - wet ball again hits ground on snap, 3rd - fake to left and thenzig-zagging run by Garret Tiarks gains 10 yds., 4th - Tanner Clatt is sacked just as he gets the throw off. Turnover on Downs. Chiefs Ball: 1st - Tanner Clatt with stop for no gain, 2nd - Long pass is knocked down by Garret and Grant Tiarks, 3rd - run to left steps out of bounds after gain of 10 yds., 4th - wet ball hits ground on snap, Turnover on downs. Colts Ball: 1st - Greg Bryan with a good run to the left and cutback to the right for 3yds., 2nd - Tanner Clatt to Grant Tiarks who weaved through defenders and broke into the clear for a 42 yd. TD! Colts 28-0, Chiefs Ball: 1st - Garret Tiarks with stop, clock expires, Halftime: Score Colts 28, Chiefs 0, 2nd Half into 30 mph wind-Chiefs Ball: 1st - Evan Dodd on stop for no gain, 2nd - Grant Tiarks breaks up pass play, incomplete, 3rd - Kevin Hapes on stop for little gain, 4th - Austin Johannes stops reverse to left for loss of 2 yds. Colts Ball: 1st - Jacob Clatt with carry around the end had wet ball slip out of hands after gain of 5 yds., hit ground, dead ball, 2nd - Grant Tiarks pass to Matthew Hill who made diving attempt that went just off fingertips, incomplte. 3rd - Pass intercepted over middle and returned to 5 yd line where Tanner Clatt made stop. Chiefs Ball: 1st - Runner slips on wet grass and puts knee down, 2nd - run to left gains 3yds. for TD. Score 28-7, Colts Ball: 1st - Garrett Packer run to right for good 5 yds. 2nd - Grant Tiarks pass to Garret Tiarks who makes diving attempt on ball held up in wind, 3rd - Garret Tiarks on reverse for no gain, 4th - Grant Tiarks long pass to Garret Tiarks actually cut through wind and was overthrown. Chiefs Ball: 1st - Garret Tiarks with stop for no gain, 2nd - Kevin Hapes on an excellent play, didn't bite on an inside fake handoff and stayed in coverage, and narrowly missed intercepting the pass from the rolling out QB. 3rd - Garret Tiarks with stop at line of scrimmage, 4th - Pass attempt to left in zone between cornerback and safety was tipped away on a diving play by Garret Tiarks who actually tipped it towards the safety, Grant Tiarks who also dove and narrowly missed the interception, turnover on downs, Colts Ball: 1st - Tanner Clatt on carry gains 9 yds., 2nd - Tanner Clatt to Grant Tiarks on pass completion for 23 yds., 3rd - Incomplete pass, 4th - bobbled snap hits ground, clock expires, Colts WIN! 28-7 . The Colts play their final game of the season next week, here's hoping for some better weather.

Packers remain Undefeated, move to 3-0 with 21-7 victory

The Colo Nesco Packers remained undefeated on the year with another dominating performance in beating the Chiefs 21-7. My thanks to Randy Stoeffler for recording the highlights for me. With just under 3 minutes gone in the game an attempted Chiefs pass was intercepted by Mason Lytle who then proceeded to take it to the house as he returned the interception for a TD! putting the Packers up 7-0. The defense remained tough on the next series as they nearly recorded 2 safeties on consecutive plays. At the 14 minute mark the Packers offense saw a pass from Hunter Beard to Brady Stoeffler completed for 23 yds and a 1st down. The drive unfortunately stalled but the defense again rose up and denied the Chiefs offense any breathing room, holding them to a 4 and out. Packers Ball: 1st - Wayne Beard around the end gains 15 yds. 2nd - Hunter Beard passes to Parker Eley for a 3 yd completion. 3rd - Mason Lytle gains 1 yd. 4th - Wayne Beard gains 8 yds for a 1st down. 1st - Hunter Beard finds Brady Stoeffler behind defense for 18 yd TD! Packers 14-0. Halftime! Packers were held to a 4 and out on the first series of the 2nd half. Chiefs ball: Chiefs run for 45yd TD. Score 14-7. Packers Ball: 1st - Brady Stoeffler runs for 27 yds and 1st down. 1st - Hunter Beard to Parker Eley on pass good for 1o yds. 2nd - Hunter Beard on pass to Brady Stoeffler who then ran it in for 13rd TD! Packers 21-7. The Pack then ended all hopes for the Chiefs as their smothering defense stopped the Chiefs on 4 plays and gave the ball back to the offense with 1 minute left. Brady Stoeffler connected on a long pass to Bryce Niemeyer that gained 20 yds. Clock expired Packers Win!! 21-7. Colts even record at 1-1 with win over Bears 28-9

After narrowly losing to their classmates in the battle of Colo Nesco teams 2 weeks ago, the Colts found the win column in impressive fashion with a dominating 28-8 win that saw the Colts display a wide open attack that produced many big plays. THE GAME: Bears won toss and took the ball, 1st down - run for a short gain stopped by Garret Tiarks. 2nd- Pass attempt was intercepted by Tanner Clatt and returned 16 yds to the 1 yd. line. Colts Ball: 1st - Colts bobbled handoff, ball hit ground, dead ball. 2nd - Tanner Clatt on nice fake to running back, keeps ball and throws to Grant Tiarks in back of the endzone for TD! Colts 7-0. Bears Ball: 1st - run for no gain, stopped by Garret Tiarks. 2nd - run zig-zagging back and forth across field gains 30 yds, stopped by Tyler Anthony. 1st - run for no gain as player slipped on wet grass. 2nd - Pass intercepted by Tanner Clatt (2nd Int. of night). Just very sound technique by Matthew Hill. 3rd - Greg Bryan with another speed rush that stopped the runner behind the line and a loss of 3 yds. 4th - Garret Tiarks with the stop of short screen pass to the right, no gain. Colts ball: 1st - Tyler Anthony run to right is met in backfield and does nice job of getting out of endzone, barely, ball on 1 yd line. 2nd - Garrett Packer runs up middle for gain of 4 yds to give Colts some breathing room. 3rd - Grant Tiarks to Garret Tiarks on pass, ball tipped and just went off Garret's outstretched hands. 4th - Grant Tiarks pass to Tyler Anthony is deflected and batted down. The Packers kept momentum rolling in week 2 of the Flag Football season with an outstanding defensive effort and an efficient offensive game to move to 2-0 with a defeat of the Nevada Bears 9-11 year old team. The Packers held the Bears to 16 yds of total offense on the night with a stifling, pursuing defense that left the Bears and their coaches frustrated. The defense also recorded a pair of safeties on the night, Offensively the Packers moved the ball up and down the field chewing up yards and time. Both Colo Nesco teams will be back in action next week as the Packers look to stay undefeated and the Colts try and duplicate the Packers results against these same Nevad Bears.

First game of Flag Football season is a battle to the End!

As seems to be every year for the 9/11 year old teams their first game of the year was against each other. The Colo Nesco Colts squared off against the Colo Nesco Packers and although each team is a mix of different players from a year ago, the contest between the two teams remains the same, both teams are very competitive and challenge each other to play their best game. Like last year this one was undecided until the final gun with the Packers prevailing over the Colts by a score of 15-14. There were many outstanding plays made on both sides of the ball and the kids really played well as was evidenced by there being no penalties in the game. The Game: Colts won the toss and took the ball, 1st down - Garret Tiarks 5 yd. run up the middle, 2nd down - Tanner Clatt to Grant Tiarks pass incomplete, 3rd down - Halfback pass from Garret Tiarks to Tanner Clatt batted away by Mason Lytle, 4th down - Long pass from Tanner Clatt to Grant Tiarks good for 25 yds and a first down. 1st - Run by Garret Tiarks for no gain, 2nd - Wayne Beard makes a QB sack on Tanner Clatt for a loss of 5 yds., 3rd - Long pass to Grant Tiarks batted away on nice defensive coverage by Brady Stoeffler, 4th - Hand off to Grant Tiarks who in turn handed off to Garret Tiarks on end around who just overthrew Tanner Clatt behind defense. Packers WIN! This was a well played game by both teams and was a lot of fun to watch and coach. Players on both sides shook hands, told each other great game and realized they could all go back to being Colo Nesco again and no longer be opposing teams. The Packers play again next Tuesday and look to continue the momentum of their win. The Colts have a bye week next week but will be back in action on September 30th.

Flag Football to start practices!!

Flag football for the 2009 season will begin with the first practice on Sunday, August 30th. Practice will be held at the Middle School Football Field . 9 to 11 year olds will practice 3-5pm, 7/8 year olds will practice at the same time for this practice , 3-5pm, and the 5/6 year olds will practice following at 5-6pm. There will be a manditory parents meeting to be held at the start of the practice times for each age group. It should last no longer than 15 minutes. See everyone there!!

The Colo Nesco summer athletic camps are well underway this week as 5th thru 8th grade Boys and Girls basketball camps are being held in Colo at the gym and the Colo Nesco Wrestling Program is holding a wrestling camp in McCallsburg gym for kids ages 5 to 8th grade (See story and Pics below). On August 12th the Middle School football camp will be held in Zearing which will any kids going into grades 5 through 8 this year.

The Chiefs Flag Football season came to a close on Tuesday night as the Chiefs played the only remaining undefeated team in the league (the Giants) and took care of business, notching the victory 22-14. The victory earned the Chiefs a 1st place tie in the final league standings, finishing 3-1 on the year. The Game: Chiefs started on defense, Giants ball: 1st - Garret Tiarks with stop at line of scrimmage, 2nd - Garret Tiarks again with stop behind the line, 3rd - incomplete pass under heavy pressure, 4th - Grant Tiarks with stop at line of scrimmage, Chiefs ball: 1st - Alex Good to TJ Deahl incomplete, wet ball slipped through receivers fingers, 2nd - incomplete pass, 3rd - incomplete pass, 4th - Brady Stoeffler on reverse to Alex Good for 15 yds short of 1st. It was an great Flag Football season for the kids from Colo Nesco as both teams played very well and both improved throughout the year. As a combined team the Vikings and Chiefs should make for a strong athletic foundation to continue building on the success of the High School program in the coming years. Players and parents should take pride in the success of the teams and continue to realize that when we play as a team, not as individuals, we can compete with any school. Football is the ultimate team game and any team working together and striving towards a common goal can achieve success on the football field. Vikings end year with Win/Loss?

The Vikings ended the year with a little controversy over whether they won or lost. No one is quite sure of how the game ended score-wise on the Vikings final game against the Packers but it was obviously a battle all the way through. Coaches recap seem to indicate the Vikings probably won as they scored 4 touchdowns on the night to the Packers 3 but extra points for 2 or 1 point and safeties (not sure how many) may have swung the score the other way. With no sideline report we will have to leave it at that. The Vikings end a successful year at 2-2 and made great strides as the year went along. This group combined with the other Colo Nesco team should provide for a great team to keep the emerging Colo Nesco Football program well stocked with athletes for years to come. Congratulations to Coaches Dennis Clatt, Joel Niemeyer, and Marlin Beard as well as the entire Vikings team on a great season.

The Vikings got into the win column with a gutty performance as they beat the Jaguars 28-20. I have not received sideline report from anyone so I unfortunately don't have the details for this game. The Vikings play their final game Tuesday October 14th at 7:15

Chiefs lose first game to Packers 14-19

On what can only be described as a miserable night football, the Chiefs lost their first game of the season after running out of time in a late comeback attempt. Nearly 2 inches of rain all day completely soaked the fields and footing was treacherous at best and with the ball completely soaked the Chiefs passing game struggled to move the ball consistently down the field. However a heroic comeback in the second half offensively and a stingy defense almost allowed the Chiefs to pull out the game in the end, finally running out of time as they were driving for the go ahead score. The Game: The Chiefs started on defense, Packers ball: 1st - Brady Stoeffler with the stop after a short gain, 2nd - Alex Good with a stop behind the line of scrimmage for a loss, 3rd - incomplete pass, 4th - incomplete pass, Chiefs Ball: 1st - Reverse to Garret Tiarks gained 4 yds., 2nd - Pass intended for Parker Eley incomplete, 3rd - Pass complete to Garret Tiarks for gain of 11 yds., 4th - reverse to Parker Eley who threw to Garret Tiarks incomplete as ball was batted away. Packers Ball: 1st - Stop by Alex Good for short gain, 2nd - completed pass slipped thru Brady Stoeffler fingertips on an almost interception, stopped by TJ Deahl for gain of 10 yds.,3rd- reverse end around for TD by #85 Sellberg good for 33 yds. Packers Ball: Things looked bleak for the Chiefs as only a minute or so remained and it looked like the Packers could just run out the clock but on 1st down Grant Tiarks made a great hustle play to stop the runner in the endzone for a Chiefs Safety and a score of 15-19. It also gave the Chiefs the ball back who called timeout with :49 seconds remaining 1st - Brady Stoeffler complete to Alex Good for short gain, 2nd - Brady hand off to Alex Good on reverse who then threw back to Brady Stoeffler who had the extrenmely wet ball slipp through his soaked hands. 3rd - Brady Stoeffler to TJ Deahl/ALex Good who both came down with the ball for a first down but flags were pulled immediately, and with time quickly running out the Chiefs ran to the line to get a final play off that fell harmlessly to the turf slipping out of both the center and QB's hand. It was a valiant comeback for the Chiefs who had spotted the Packers a 3 TD lead all achieved by one very fast runner on the Packers who had the added advantage of an extremely wet field that left the Chiefs defenders slipping and sliding in the first half. The Chiefs should be proud of the way they never gave up and never lost hope and know that with a little more time on the clock they would have driven for the winning score. Chiefs final game is on Tuesday, October 14th at 7:15

The Chiefs took the field looking to improve on a close victory in week 1 by stepping up their defensive and offensive production. Mission accomplished! The Chiefs played well on both sides of the ball limiting the Jaguars to only 2 long runs on the night defensively and hitting numerous big plays to blow open a tight game at the half on their way to a 39-13 victory. The Game: The Chiefs started on defense 1st- Garret Tiarks rushed and pulled the flag of runner for a loss, 2nd- Grant Tiarks with stop after gain of 4 yds., 3rd - incomplete pass, 4th - Jaguars on a reverse stopped short of 1st down by Grant Tiarks. Jaguars Ball - 1st - Alex Good with heavy pressure pulled flag of running back as soon as handoff was made, 2nd - TJ Deahl with stop after short run, 3rd - Brady Stoeffler with stop on double reverse for no gain, 4th - TJ Deahl with stop before first down. Chiefs ball - 1st - TJ Deahl run for 7 yds, 2nd - Garret Tiarks with nice cut up the field zig-zagging for 38 yds down right sideline and TD, PAT failed, Chiefs 39-13. The TD was made possible by an outstanding save by QB Evan Dodd on a high snap over his head as he spun around quickly and made a Willie Mays over the head catch before the ball hit the ground and then calmly handed off to Garret who raced for the TD. Jaguars Ball - 1st - Long pass defended perfectly by Brady Stoeffler who batted the ball safely away, 2nd - Markus Bothwell on nice stop on end around for no gain, 3rd - pass complete but caught with knees down for gain of 10 yds., 4th - Alex Good with stop on attempted double reverse for little gain. Chiefs Ball - 1st - Markus Bothwell with nifty run zig-zagging for 10 yds. before doing the splits on the wet grass. 2nd - incomplete pass, 3rd - Parker Eley on reverse pulled up and made nice pass just out of reach of the receiver, 4th - Clayton Bryan with long pass just over diving Parker Eley's outstretched hands to end the game. Final Score Chiefs 39- Jaguars 13.
